Letter from the Medical Laboratoy Technologists Board

A letter was received from the Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) Board Hong Kong stating that:

Pursuant to section 16(1) of the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance, Chapter 359, Laws of Hong Kong , a person registered as a medical laboratory technologist shall not practise the profession in Hong Kong unless he is the holder of a practising certificate which is then in force.

Also, section 10(4) of the SMP Ordinance empowers the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board that it may direct the removal from the register of the name of a registrant who:

(c) being a person required to be the holder of a practising certificate, has practised the profession in Hong Kong for a period exceeding six months without having obtained such a certificate;

All the annual practising certificates are due for renewal on 1 July 2002. Therefore those registered medical laboratory technologists who have so far failed to apply to the Medical Laboratory Technologists Board for the renewal of their annual practising certificates should do so immediately, and in any case not later than 31 December 2002. Otherwise, their names will be liable to be removed from the register of medical laboratory technologists.

Any inquires may be directed to the secretariat of the Medical Technologists Board at telephone number 2527 8369 or facsimile number 2865 5540.

Members are reminded to pay attention to this matter and to renew the practising certificates immediately, if have not already done so, to avoid removal of their names from the register.
