Pituitary

Haematoxylin and Eosin

A section of the adenohypophysis of a pituitary stained with Haematoxylin and Eosin. There are chromophobe, eosinophil/acidophil and basophil cells. The nuclei are stained sharply and stand out from the background. Other tissue components are stained with different shape of pink to red. The balance of colours falls within the gold standard.


Periodic acid-Schiff - Orange G

Section from the same tissue block stained with Periodic acid-Schiff - Orange G (PAS-OG) method (Pearse, 1953). The results are:
Basophil cells - magenta

Collagen - magenta

Acidophil cells - orange

Red blood cells - orange
