171 Gram negative bacilli isolated in this lab from Jul.,96 to Jun.,97 were tested by Etest ESBL screen methods, 24/171 strains were found ESBLs positive, mainly enterobacteria, ESBLs detection rates for E.coli, K.pneumonia, Acinetobacters, C.freundi and E.cloacae were 14.58% (7/48), 17.39% (4/23), 14.89% (7/47), 37.50% (3/8) and 6.25% (1/16) respectively. There were 20-26% varieties of sensitivities to 3rd generation cephalosporins among 24 ESBLs strains. The results indicates that Etest ESBL screen method is accurate, quantitative and easy to use for the clinical labs, but attention must be paid to some strains with different enzyme substrates, so as not to miss these ESBLs isolates.
