Membership is available, irrespective of sex and nationality but according to qualifications and experiences, to persons engaged in the practice of medical laboratory sciences and in good conduct and willing to observe the statute of the Institute.
Corporate Membership
Ordinary member
Person who at present possesses at least one of the following qualifications:
Ordinary Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology issued by School of Professional and Continuing Education (formerly Department of Extra-Mural Studies), University of Hong Kong.
Ordinary Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science issued by Hong Kong Polytechnic University (formerly Hong Kong Polytechnic).
Proficiency Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology issued by Hong Kong Medical & Health Department before 1982.
Higher Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology issued by School of Professional and Continuing Education (formerly Department of Extra-Mural Studies), University of Hong Kong.
Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science issued by Hong Kong Polytechnic University (formerly Hong Kong Polytechnic).
Associateship of Institute of Biomedical Science (formerly Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences), United Kingdom.
Fellowship of Institute of Biomedical Science (formerly Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences), United Kingdom.
Certificate issued by Hong Kong Medical Laboratory Technologists Board.
Any other Hong Kong Medical Laboratory Technologists Board accredited qualification for Part II registration.
Associate
Person who at present possesses at least one of the following qualifications with not less than three year working experience in medical laboratory:
Higher Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology issued by School of Professional and Continuing Education (formerly Department of Extra Mural Studies), University of Hong Kong.
Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science issued by Hong Kong Polytechnic University (formerly Hong Kong Polytechnic).
Associateship of Institute of Biomedical Science (formerly Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences), United Kingdom.
Fellowship of Institute of Biomedical Science (formerly Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences), United Kingdom.
Any other Hong Kong Medical Laboratory Technologists Board accredited qualification for Part I registration.
Fellow
Person who has been an Associate of the Institute for not less than 2 years, at present registered as Part I Medical Laboratory Technologist and has acquired at least one of the following:
Having presented thesis, under the recommendation of two current Fellows and approved by the Executive Council.
Having made distinctive contribution to the Profession, under the recommendation of two current Fellows and approved by the Executive Council.
Having passed the Fellowship Examination held by the Institute.
Non-corporate Membership
Student member
Person who is at present under training in medical laboratory sciences.
Provisional member
Person who is at present serving in the field of medical laboratory sciences.
Life member
Member who has retired from his/her job and has made distinctive contribution to the Profession of Medical Laboratory Technology, and is subjected to the recommendation and approval of the Executive Council.
Retired member
Member who has retired from his/her job.
Overseas member
Current member who has emigrated overseas or other foreign person who is serving in the Profession of Medical Laboratory Technology in other countries.
Honorary Membership
Honorary President, Adviser and Honorary Fellow
Person having distinctive contribution to the Profession of Medical Laboratory Technology, and is subjected to the invitation and approval of the Executive Council or at any Annual or Extra-Ordinary
General Meeting.
